Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee and raised in Sevierville, Tennessee to Avie Lee Parton who was a housewife & Robert Lee Parton, a tobacco farmer. At the age of 12 she was already appearing on Knoxville TV. At 13 she was already recording for a small label as well as singing at Grand Ole Opry. She graduated high school in 1964 before moving to Nashville for her country music journey. Carl Dean, a asphalt-paving business owner was her first love. They were married May 30 June, 1966. Porter Wagoner hired her in 1967 to be a part of his show, The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She was a part of The Porter Wagoner Show for seven years. The duets that they recorded became popular and she was invited to perform alongside him at the Grand Ole Opry. When her smash hit "Joshua" reached #1 in 1970, her popularity had surpassed hers, and she began to go out on her own though still recording duets with him. She quit him to pursue her own career in 1974. Dolly was an extremely well-known artist and singer. Dolly was awarded numerous Country Music Association awards (1968-70, 1971-1972, 1975-1976 and 1976). This petite (5'0") beauty was a natural at television In the mid-1970s, she was often appearing on TV specials and talk programs before she got her own, Dolly (1976). Dolly received her first Grammy award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1977 for "Here You Come Again". Dolly's film debut came in 9 to 5 (1980) in which she was awarded an Oscar nomination for writing the title tune. She also received Grammy Awards 2 and 3: Best Country Song, and Best Female Country Vocal Performance for the song "Nine to Five." More fame came from her appearances in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and as well as Rhinestone (1984) and Rhinestone (1984), with the hit track "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises is her media empire worth over $100 million. In 1986, she launched Dollywood, a Tennessee theme park located in Pigeon Forge. This was in celebration of her Smoky Mountain upbringing. She was in the television show Dolly (1987 TV Show) as herself. For "Trio", she won the Best Country Performance Duo or Group with Vocals Grammy in 1988.
